# StreamSaddle 1.1.0 preview October 5, 2026 · version code 3 · Android TV / Google TV development preview. This debug-signed APK updates the existing StreamSaddle preview using the same development signing key. It is a sideloaded working prototype, not a Google Play release. Streaming apps and subscriptions are separate. ## What's changed - Home now places weather to the left of the centered Wired West StreamSaddle logo and the clock to its right. Each pill is centered between the logo and its screen edge. Larger town, temperature and clock readouts use more of the available space. - The bottom 70% of Home is a scrolling editable app grid with larger icons. Default order starts YouTube TV, Jellyfin, Spotify, Twitch, then YouTube. Netflix, SiriusXM, Paramount+, HBO and Prime Video follow when available. Play Games, Play Movies and Play Store are hidden from Home; apps remain installed. - Hold OK on an app to open Move shortcut / Remove from home / Cancel. Move with the D-pad, then press OK to finish. Removed shortcuts can be restored under the wagon wheel's Apps settings. - Fixed the long-press menu closing when OK was released. The opening press is now consumed through release so it cannot accidentally choose a menu item. - Theme selection and Edit app layout are inside the top-right wagon-wheel settings menu. Removed the Home app heading and movement instructions. - Added matching high-resolution green leather and engraved brass artwork for streaming shortcuts, including Twitch, Hulu, Tubi, Shudder, Roku, Disney+, Pluto TV and ESPN+. Settings uses a matching wagon-wheel badge. Icons are applied to discovered apps; creating artwork does not install an app. - The YouTube remote button opens YouTube TV and the Netflix remote button opens Jellyfin across foreground apps, through the optional StreamSaddle remote shortcuts accessibility service. Remote settings now link to Android Accessibility for enabling or restoring that service. - Remote Ranger remains available in the app list. The existing 52 themes, 50 clock faces, saved customization, detailed weather/forecast and radar options, optional news ticker, autolaunch settings and branded clock screensaver remain available. ## Install or update Download `StreamSaddle-1.1.0-preview.apk` and transfer it to the TV using a file-transfer app, supported USB storage, or ADB. Allow the file manager to install unknown apps when prompted, open the APK, then open StreamSaddle from the app list. Installing over the existing compatible signed preview preserves its stored settings; uninstalling first removes them. For ADB, install Android SDK Platform Tools on a computer. Enable developer options and USB or wireless debugging on the TV and approve the connection. Pairing and connection ports are different; use the current values shown by the TV. The pairing code is entered at the prompt. ```text adb pair TV_IP:PAIRING_PORT adb connect TV_IP:CONNECTION_PORT adb -s TV_IP:CONNECTION_PORT install -r StreamSaddle-1.1.0-preview.apk adb -s TV_IP:CONNECTION_PORT shell am start -n com.example.streamsaddle/.MainActivity ``` USB users can omit `-s TV_IP:CONNECTION_PORT` when only one device is attached. ## Make Home open StreamSaddle First confirm StreamSaddle opens and launches installed apps. If the TV exposes a default Home setting, select StreamSaddle there. With an authorized ADB connection, request it as Home: ```text adb shell cmd package set-home-activity com.example.streamsaddle/.MainActivity ``` Some Google TV firmware overrides this setting. The tested Chromecast and Google TV Streamer required disabling the Google launcher for the current user. This keeps the package installed and is reversible: ```text adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.apps.tv.launcherx adb shell cmd package set-home-activity com.example.streamsaddle/.MainActivity ``` On the tested Google TV Streamer, a completed-setup recovery screen also intercepted Home. Device-specific setup additionally disabled `com.google.android.tungsten.setupwraith` after confirming both `user_setup_complete` and `device_provisioned` were `1`. Do not apply that extra change to an unconfigured TV; contact Wired West for model-specific setup. TV firmware and package names vary. Before uninstalling StreamSaddle, restore the stock launcher and any setup package disabled during customization: ```text adb shell pm enable --user 0 com.google.android.apps.tv.launcherx # Only if this package was disabled during your device setup: adb shell pm enable --user 0 com.google.android.tungsten.setupwraith adb shell cmd package set-home-activity com.google.android.apps.tv.launcherx/.home.HomeActivity ``` Restore the previous screensaver in TV settings before removing StreamSaddle. ## Remote app buttons Open the wagon wheel → Remote → Remote button accessibility settings. Enable **StreamSaddle remote shortcuts**. YouTube opens YouTube TV; Netflix opens Jellyfin across apps. This service filters those keys and does not read screen content. Remote Ranger's control service is separate; keep any existing accessibility services enabled. If the buttons stop working after an update or force stop, check that StreamSaddle remote shortcuts is still enabled. The handler was found switched off during development and was restored before the owner confirmed both buttons worked. Check this setting after updating. The Netflix icon in the app grid still opens Netflix. The YouTube icon still opens YouTube; YouTube TV has its own shortcut. The remap concerns the physical remote buttons. Playback position and joining the live broadcast depend on YouTube TV's controls; StreamSaddle supplies no playback timestamp. On the test Streamer, YouTube TV 3.83.03 repeatedly resumed a stale position even after Join live and a fresh activity task. Restarting YouTube TV brought it back to its home screen. Automatic last-channel playback at the live edge is not guaranteed by this launcher. Select the current channel from YouTube TV's Live guide; if its session gets stuck, restart YouTube TV through Android app settings. ## Customize - Wagon wheel → Apps: change icon size, edit app order, hide and restore shortcuts. - Themes: choose among 52 themes; Clock: choose among 50 faces, 12/24-hour time, seconds and date options. - Click weather for current conditions, forecasts and radar options. Weather needs internet access; radar uses US National Weather Service coverage. - Optional News and Autolaunch controls configure sources/categories, ticker appearance and app triggers. Autolaunch timers run while StreamSaddle is active. - Remote Ranger requires Android 11 or later and explicit screen-capture approval. Full helper-to-TV video/control validation is still pending. ## Verification and limits Build and unit tests passed. The packaged version was installed and opened on a physical Google TV Streamer; the preceding build was also installed on a physical Chromecast with Google TV. Home routing was verified from TV settings. Weather/clock spacing and installed custom icons were inspected on physical TV screenshots. An injected long press left the app-action menu open after release; D-pad navigation reached Remove from home. The owner confirmed both physical remote buttons opened their mapped apps after enabling the handler, and confirmed Netflix opens Jellyfin even from inside YouTube TV after the global remapping fix. The final update retained the enabled service. Earlier launcher testing also used a Chromecast with Google TV and an Android TV emulator. Disney+, Pluto TV, ESPN+, Shudder and Roku were not installed on the current test unit, so their artwork was reviewed but their launch behavior was not tested there. Paramount+ offers an installation prompt when absent. No streaming apps are bundled. Other models and firmware may behave differently.
